Hit-and-Run Driver Wanted after Fatal Bicycle Collision near West 227th Street
TORRANCE, CA (September 17, 2018) – A man was killed early Monday morning following a bicycle crash near West 227th Street. The deceased victim was later identified as 32-year-old Jonathan Valbuena.
According to the Torrance Police Department, the bicyclist was struck by a vehicle at about 4:45 AM on Hawthorne Avenue. Events that led to the fatal crash were not immediately available to the public.
Despite life-saving efforts, Valbuena succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by responding firefighters. Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle involved did not stop to render aid and fled the site of the crash.
A portion of the vehicle, believed to be a tan or a light gold 2006 to 2009 Toyota 4-Runner, was found in the street near the scene. The SUV possibly has significant front-end damage, especially near the bumper. There is no description of the hit-and-run driver at this time.
