1 Dead in Orange Auto Accident on Tustin Street and Adams Avenue

ORANGE, CA (March 13, 2024) – Tuesday afternoon, Jonathan Lopez was arrested in a brutal DUI crash on Tustin Street and Adams Avenue.

At around 11:18 a.m., authorities received reports of a distressing incident in the 300 block of N. Tustin Street, where a patrol officer discovered a man with severe injuries lying on the roadway. Tragically, the victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

According to witnesses, the victim was crossing the street outside of a designated crosswalk when he was struck by a silver sedan. Approximately ten minutes later, officers spotted a silver sedan with significant front-end damage traveling north on Glassell Street at Katella Avenue, prompting a pursuit.

Orange police Lt. Phil McMullin remarked on the remarkable ability of the damaged vehicle to continue operating, despite its condition, leading to a pursuit spanning over a mile before the driver pulled over and was apprehended.

The driver, identified as Lopez, displayed signs of alcohol intoxication and was subsequently arrested on charges including felony DUI, felony hit-and-run, evading, and vehicular homicide. Lt. McMullin expressed concerns over Lopez’s prior DUI convictions, emphasizing the need for stricter enforcement measures to prevent such tragedies.

Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer echoed these sentiments, advocating for the adoption of interlock ignition systems for repeat DUI offenders to mitigate the risk posed by intoxicated drivers.
