2 Hurt in Trinity County Auto Accident on State Route 299
TRINITY COUNTY, CA (September 12, 2024) – Wednesday morning, Jolene Eye and Carmen Busbee suffered injuries in a crash on State Route 299.
The incident occurred just before 7:00 a.m. on State Route 299, east of Fawn Lodge Road.
Authorities reported that 55-year-old Danny Milholland from Winnemucca, Nevada, was driving a Peterbilt logging truck at an unsafe speed heading west on SR-299. At the same time, 21-year-old Eye from Anderson was driving a Hyundai Sonata eastbound on the same highway, approaching Milholland’s truck.
Due to the excessive speed, the Peterbilt overturned into the eastbound lane, spilling its load of logs. Eye tried to evade the falling logs but was unable to avoid them. The logs struck the Hyundai, pushing it off the road and sending it down a 20-foot embankment south of SR-299.
Both Eye and her passenger, 21-year-old Busbee of Redding, suffered serious injuries, including possible fractures to their arms, legs, and pelvis, and were taken to Mercy Medical in Redding. Milholland was not injured in the crash.
The highway was closed for four hours about six miles east of Douglas City to recover and clear the vehicles. Officials confirmed that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the incident.
