Johnny Nunez Identified in Deadly Collision of Semi and Utility Truck in Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, CA (August 23, 2019) – A 22-year-old man died in a head-on collision on Stockdale Highway Wednesday morning.
The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Johnny Edwin Nunez of San Jose. The cause of Nunez’ death is multiple blunt force trauma.
The California Highway Patrol reports that Nunez was driving a utility truck at around 10 in the morning. For unknown reasons, the vehicle swerved into oncoming traffic and then crashed head-on into a big rig. Nunez was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency responders transported Nunez’ passenger to a hospital with major injuries. On the other hand, the driver of the big rig suffered minor injuries.
A small amount of hydraulic fluid spilled after the crash. The Kern Environmental Health also responded to the incident. The crash remains under investigation.
