Lawrence Vanderhoof Arrested after Pedestrian Collision near South Recreation Avenue
FRESNO, CA (October 9, 2018) – A man was injured Thursday evening following a pedestrian crash near South Recreation Avenue. The deceased victim was later identified as 31-year-old John Shoff.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place in an industrial area on South Bagley Avenue. A 1997 Toyota, driven by 48-year-old Lawrence Vanderhoof of Clovis, was heading south at a high rate of speed when it failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. The driver went into a slide before striking the pedestrian and a water main valve.
Shoff was transported to a hospital after sustaining a major leg injury. Updates on his current medical condition were not immediately available. Meanwhile, Vanderhoof attempted to flee the scene but was promptly arrested and later booked on charges of driving under the influence.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the crash and to identify other possible contributing factors. No further details have been provided to the public at this time.
