33-Year-Old Man Fatally Struck by 2 Cars on Highway 74 in Perris
PERRIS, CA (December 13, 2019) – A man was killed in a pedestrian crash Friday evening in an unincorporated area in Perris, authorities said.
The crash happened around 7:00 p.m. on Highway 74, just west of River Road.
According to witnesses, the man got off a bus and ran to the highway’s center divider. He began waving his arms to try to get vehicles to see him as he tried to run across to the other side of the road.
As he attempted to cross the eastbound lanes, a Dodge Caravan traveling at 50 mph struck him. Moments later, as the man was getting up, another eastbound vehicle, a Hyundai Santa Fe, also struck him.
As a result, the man died at the scene. The Riverside County coroner’s office identified him Saturday as John Rubio, 33, of Perris.
The two female drivers, both Lake Elsinore residents, remained on scene and cooperated with authorities.
No arrests were made at this time, but the fatal incident is still under investigation.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of John Rubio. At times like this, we hope they find peace and strength.
