Jessica Acunia Arrested after Pedestrian Collision near North Broadway Street
FRESNO, CA (December 2, 2018) – A man was seriously injured early Sunday morning following a suspected armed assault and hit-and-run crash near North Broadway Street. The victim was later identified as 36-year-old John Rodriquez. His city of residence was not immediately provided.
According to the Fresno Police Department, the incident happened shortly before 2:00 AM. Rodriquez was standing on the sidewalk when he and an unidentified individual bumped into each other. The person struck or pushed Rodriquez, knocking him onto East Olive Avenue. There, he was hit by a white Chrysler 300.
Rodriquez was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center with a skull fracture, a fractured vertebra, and other serious injuries. The victim recently underwent surgery but remains in critical condition. Further updates on his current medical condition were not available.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Chrysler did not stop to render aid and fled the scene. The suspect who allegedly assaulted Rodriquez also left the area before the police arrived.
Hours after the incident, the driver of the Chrysler turned herself in. 23-year-old Jessica Acunia was booked into Fresno County Jail on charges of felony hit-and-run and failure to have a court-ordered ignition interlock device. Jail records show that she posted bail and was released early Tuesday morning.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the location and the identity of the other suspect.
