Officers Search For Suspect Driver in Hit-and-Run Crash on HWY 99
Fresno County, CA (December 14, 2023) – 77-year-old John Ortiz of Selma was killed in a Highway 99 collision Monday afternoon.
It was about 3.p.m when John’s wife was driving their pickup truck and a Chrysler 200 sedan drifted and struck their truck.
Officers said the pickup truck lost control and veered into the center.
As a result, 2 people incurred injuries and were transported to an area hospital while the Chrysler’s driver took off.
John, who was the passenger in the truck died at CRMC from his injuries.
The accident report noted that John would have been 78 years old on Christmas Day and that he had just beat cancer. He was traveling home from his last round of chemo when the collision took place.
In the meantime, the authorities ask anyone with information to call the California Highway Patrol at (559) 705-2200. CHP said the driver will face felony hit-and-run charges.
