1 Person Arrested after Columbia Auto Accident on Scott Boulevard near W Bethany Drive
COLUMBIA, MO (August 22, 2024) – Tuesday night, John Douglas Casey was arrested after a crash on Scott Boulevard near W Bethany Drive.
The incident happened on Scott Boulevard near West Bethany Drive.
Casey, 27, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing physical injury and misdemeanor DWI. His initial court appearance was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, but he was not listed on the Boone County Jail roster that day.
According to reports, deputies discovered a Toyota Tundra with Ohio plates facing north in the southbound lane of Scott Boulevard, just north of West Belleview Drive. Both the Toyota and a Mercedes-Benz, which was facing south in the northbound lane, were damaged. The driver of the Mercedes sustained scratches to their left arm and leg.
Witnesses reportedly told deputies they saw a man fleeing the scene down West Bethany Drive. Casey was eventually detained, and a woman with him in the vehicle allegedly claimed that Casey had a seizure while driving.
Casey reportedly admitted to taking Xanax and smoking weed earlier in the day but denied driving the Toyota or being aware of the crash. Court documents indicate that Casey showed multiple signs of impairment. The northbound lane of Scott Boulevard was closed for about 50 minutes, and both vehicles were towed from the scene.
