Joey McGraw Jr. and Michael Klassen Hospitalized after Head-On Crash in Shandon
SHANDON, CA (August 29, 2019) – Two people suffered injuries in a head-on collision on Highway 46 near the Cholame “Y” intersection on Wednesday morning.
The California Highway Patrol said the incident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. It involved a Honda Acura and a Toyota Sienna.
An investigation showed that 29-year-old Joey McGraw Jr. of San Bernardino drove the Acura westbound on Highway 46 west of Antelope Road. After that, he attempted to pass a tractor-trailer truck.
The officers said McGraw drove at an unsafe speed. He lost control of his vehicle and swerved into the eastbound lane. McGraw’s Acura then collided head-on into the Sienna driven by 67-year-old Michael Klassen of Pebble Beach.
Klassen’s vehicle went over the south side of the highway. On the other hand, McGraw’s car rested blocking the eastbound traffic. The semi-truck was not involved in the crash as per the CHP.
Emergency responders took both drivers to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo with possible fractures.
The investigators do not believe that drugs and alcohol were factors. The CHP added that the Cholame “Y” interchange had nothing to do with the collision.
