Injuries Reported in Windsor Rollover Accident on Old Redwood Highway
WINDSOR, CA (January 25, 2022) – Sunday night, authorities arrested Joel Mendez Santiago after a DUI crash on Old Redwood Highway.
The incident happened at around 10:10 p.m. in the 1100 block of Old Redwood Highway. According to reports, authorities arrested Santiago on felony DUI, felony hit-and-run, and driving unlicensed.
According to CHP Officer David DeRutte, Joel Mendez Santiago drove a black Dodge Dart. Also, four male passengers rode with him, all intoxicated. As they traveled north on Old Redwood Highway, Santiago failed to yield at a stop sign at Eastside Road.
Thus, he struck a concrete wall and caused the vehicle to roll onto its side.
Then, the authorities received a report of an overturned car at 9:54 p.m. When the Sonoma County Sheriff’s deputy arrived, they found Santiago and his passenger inside the vehicle. Thus, the deputy used a fire extinguisher to put out a small engine fire. Before the deputy could assist the occupants, Santiago pulled himself out of the broken driver’s side window. Then, he fled the scene.
Meanwhile, two passengers remained unconscious when the authorities came. Thus, responders took all four of them to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Two of them sustained major injuries and two had moderate injuries.
Also, responders took Joel Mendez Santiago to the hospital for minor injuries.
After failing a field sobriety test, the authorities booked Santiago in the Sonoma County jail.
