Injuries Reported in Willows Auto Accident on Interstate 5 near Road 39
WILLOWS, CA (October 1, 2023) – Thursday night, Joel Lizarraga and seven others sustained injuries in a disastrous bus crash on Interstate 5 near Road 39.
The incident happened at around 11:25 p.m. on Interstate 5, north of Road 39.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a northbound 2019 Kenworth truck attempting to pass a bus struck the left rear of the bus. Then, the force of the crash pushed the bus to crash through a fence to the east of the freeway and came to rest at the edge of an orchard. Also, the truck struck a row of oleanders after it ran into the median.
Moreover, responders transported eight occupants of the bus, including its driver, Lizarraga of Sinaloa, to an area hospital with unknown injuries.
Furthermore, officers do not believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.
Due to limited information, the CHP continued to investigate the crash.
