Police Investigate Hit-And-Run Crash on 12th Street in St. Louis

St. Louis, MO (October 18, 2024) – Joe Tyler suffered bruises on his arm and back in a hit-and-run crash on 12th Street.

A St. Louis man was recently struck by a car while crossing the street in his wheelchair and walking his dog. 

Neighbors and businesses in Soulard have shared surveillance footage with FOX 2, hoping to identify the driver who fled the scene. 

The video captures Joe Tyler and his dog, Skiff, during their morning walk at 12th Street and Russell Boulevard in Soulard when a car hit Tyler and drove away.

“I was shouting, ‘Stop, stop, stop!’ but they just sped right through me. I was terrified,” Tyler said. Bystanders helped him back into his wheelchair, and he spent the rest of the day in the emergency room. 

Tyler expressed his gratitude for surviving the incident.

“Apparently, I did a pretty good Simone Biles and backflipped,” Tyler added. “Fortunately, the wheelchair absorbed most of the impact, so I didn’t suffer any fractures.”

The car involved had no license plate or temporary tags, and Tyler said the only hope of finding the driver lies in the surveillance footage. “I’m just fed up with the traffic lawlessness. It’s disgusting,” Tyler said.

Though Tyler suffered bruises on his arm and back, the wheelchair bore the brunt of the damage. Thankfully, his dog, Skiff, was unharmed. “He was really scared, but we checked him over. 

Thankfully, he wasn’t hit. And like all loving dogs, he was thrilled when the police and firemen came because they all petted him,” Tyler shared.
