Joe Don Harwell Dies After Crash on South Tucson Boulevard 

Tucson, AZ (August 21, 2024) – Motorcyclist Joe Don Harwell died in a crash on South Tucson Boulevard involving a Ford Mustang.

Reportedly, an 18-year-old driver in a Ford Mustang struck and killed a 59-year-old motorcyclist overnight on Tucson’s south side.

According to a news release from the Tucson Police Department (TPD), Joe Don Harwell was riding his 2024 Harley Davidson eastbound on Valencia Road around midnight when the Mustang driver, heading westbound on Valencia, made a left turn onto South Tucson Blvd.

He collided with Harwell.

Harwell, who was not wearing a helmet but had the appropriate motorcycle endorsement, died at the scene, as stated in the news release. 

TPD confirmed that the Mustang driver was not impaired during the crash.

Detectives are investigating the traffic light phases at the time of the incident.
