Joe Delucas Dies in Long Beach DUI Accident, Mario Medrano Arrested
Long Beach, CA (October 1, 2020) – On Tuesday, police arrested 31-year-old Mario Medrano of Norwalk in a suspected DUI crash on Pacific Coast Highway.
The fatal accident happened before 5:00 p.m. south of Loynes Avenue in Long Beach.
Medrano was driving a 2015 Nissan Altima southbound at a fast speed with three other people inside. Just then, swerved into oncoming traffic and crashed into a 1994 Nissan truck.
Moreover, Medrano continued southbound on the wrong side of the road on PCH, he hit a northbound 2010 Toyota Prius.
As a result of the crash, the Prius was pushed into the southbound lanes. Then, the Prius was struck by a 2008 Honda Pilot heading south.
Meanwhile, the paramedics took three of the four people in Medrano’s car. Also, they took two people in the Prius and the only person in the Honda to a local hospital with non-fatal injuries.
The rescuers tried to save the fourth occupant in the Altima, Joe Delucas, but he died at the scene.
Authorities identified him as a 30-year-old Los Angeles man.
Police arrested Medrano on suspicion of DUI and murder. Medrano’s bail is $2 million.
Further, the authorities continue to investigate the deadly Long Beach crash.
