San Diego, CA (June 21, 2024) – A Tierrasanta woman and her father hope to find the good Samaritans who helped them after a hit-and-run crash on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard.

Reflecting on her trip to Starbucks last Saturday afternoon, Friedman becomes emotional. She was in the passenger seat while her 81-year-old father, Arnold, drove their Honda sedan on Clairemont Mesa Blvd., near Antigua Blvd. “I remember glass breaking,” Arnold recalled. “I heard myself scream,” Jodi added.

The severe collision caused the airbags to deploy. Arnold doesn’t remember much but recalls crawling out of the car. “I was panicking, and I was trying to get out of the car,” he said. Jodi remembers the pain and a voice. “Then I hear a woman’s voice next to me, ‘You have to get out. It’s smoking. You have to get out.’ I said, ‘I can’t move,'” Jodi recounted.

Jodi’s memory is hazy, but she remembers a woman with a white shirt and arms pulling her out of the car and bringing her to safety. She also recalls the woman mentioning someone, possibly her husband, chasing after the other driver. Police later confirmed that a good Samaritan helped detain the suspect.

Dean Daniels, 58, was later booked on DUI and hit-and-run charges. Jodi and her father suffered painful bruises and sprains but knew the situation could have been much worse if not for the woman’s quick actions. “Her actions saved my life. That is big,” Jodi said emotionally. “This is the day before Father’s Day, and I thought, ‘I have another Father’s Day,'” Arnold added.

Both father and daughter now hope to find the good Samaritans. “Just want to say thank you. Thanks for stepping in,” said Jodi. “She is a brave soul; I’m glad she made the choice. It made a difference.”

Daniels pleaded not guilty to several charges, including DUI and hit-and-run, on Thursday.
