2 Killed and 3 Injured in Accident near Osborne Street

PACOIMA, CA (June 11, 2018) – Two people were killed Monday evening and three were left injured following a multi-vehicle crash on the 5 Freeway. 24-year-old Jocelyn Gomez of South Gate and 23-year-old Joshua Allen of Lakewood were identified as the casualties in this incident.

The violent crash was reported around 8:40 PM in the southbound lanes of I-5. A 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer, driven by Gomez, suddenly became disabled in the No. 1 lane of the freeway and was rear-ended by a 2017 Subaru WRX.

The impact of the collision caused the Subaru to swerve into the path of a 2014 Nissan Rogue SUV in the No. 3 lane. Two other vehicles were also involved in the collision after getting struck by the Subaru and the Nissan.

Gomez and one of her passengers, Allen, were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Another Mitsubishi passenger, a 21-year-old South Gate woman, was hospitalized with unspecified injuries. The driver of the Subaru, a 21-year-old Saugus man, sustained minor injuries. An 85-year-old woman was also reportedly injured in the incident and was transported to the hospital in fair condition. A 65-year-old man was treated at the scene for minor wounds, but it was not confirmed if he was also hospitalized. It is unclear which vehicles they were in.

No other information is available to the public at this time as authorities continue their investigation on this fatal collision. It is unclear whether or not drugs and alcohol are contributing factors.

A GoFundMe page was set up to help Gomez’s family with funeral expenses. Click on the link to donate.
