33-Year-Old Woman Dies in Airport Drive Crash in Bakersfield
Bakersfield, CA (July 3, 2021) – Early Saturday morning, 33-year-old Joanne Stayman died after being struck by an SUV in a crash on Airport Drive.
The Bakersfield fatal pedestrian crash happened at around 2:30 a.m on July 3.
The California Highway Patrol said the driver of an SUV was heading southbound on Airport Drive when a pedestrian failed to yield at the intersection and began to cross the road.
The 2012 Volkswagen, driven 31-year-old Martin Navehas, saw the pedestrian and attempted to take evasive action, but ended up striking the woman. Ms. Stayman sustained fatal injuries.
Moreover, the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
The CHP said the pedestrian was suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol at that time.
