FRESNO, CA (March 19, 2018) – A 66-year-old woman of Fresno died in a four-car collision on Highway 168 at Shields Avenue, late Monday evening.
According to California Highway Patrol, the incident started around 11:40 PM when 26-year-old Ramon Medina-Mata of Fresno was driving eastbound on Highway 168 in a Hyundai and lost control.
He drove onto the dirt embankment onramp, struck a center median wall, and came to a full stop in the right lane, blocking traffic.
A 1998 Acura, driven by 66-year-old Jina Traxson of Fresno, then slammed into the Hyundai. Moments later, two other cars also slammed into Medina-Mata’s car. The two other people involved were 40-year-old Marina Jurica Preston of Fresno, a CBS 47 meteorologist in a 2015 Toyota and 36-year-old Daniel Woodward of Clovis in a 2016 Dodge. Neither was injured in the collision.
Jina Traxson was pronounced dead on the scene. Medina-Mata sustained unknown injuries and was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment and is expected to recover.
CHP is still investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the collision, but disclosed that drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the fatal crash.
