CHP Officer Injured in Berkeley Accident on Interstate Highway 80 near University Avenue

 
BERKELEY, CA (May 25, 2022) – Tuesday morning, Jimmy Jimenez was detained following a hit-and-run crash on Interstate Highway 80.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at around 12:46 a.m. Moreover, it occurred on Interstate Highway 80 near University Avenue.
 
Reports revealed that a Dodge Ram sideswiped a patrol vehicle. Then, it struck an officer who was helping a driver of a disabled car. Afterward, the Dodge fled the scene without stopping.
 
Moreover, responders transported the injured officer to a regional trauma center with life-threatening injuries.
 
Furthermore, officers managed to locate the hit-and-run suspect, 21-year-old Jimmy Jimenez. According to reports, Jimenez was asleep in his vehicle on the shoulder of eastbound I-80 near Pinole Valley Road. Then, authorities booked Jimmy Jimenez in the Santa Rita Jail on felony charges of hit and run and driving under the influence charges.
