Tu’Ulafoaina Poloa Arrested in DUI Crash Near 86th Drive Killing Jia Montanez
Phoenix, AZ (May 08, 2021) – On March 24, 11-year-old Jia Montanez died and police arrested 29-year-old Tu’Ulafoaina Poloa in a DUI crash near 86th Drive.
The fatal crash took place at the Thomas Road intersection.
Officers said Poloa lost control of his 2007 Cadillac while speeding into opposite lanes of traffic. He then crashed into the armored truck.
Rescuers took Poloa and his two passengers, Montanez, and a 5-year-old girl to a hospital in extremely critical condition.
However, Montanez died on March 28.
The armored truck’s driver and passenger were treated at the scene.
Meanwhile, officers said Poloa showed signs of being impaired. That is why on May 6, officers arrested him on manslaughter, aggravated assault, endangerment, and aggravated DUI.
