Jesus Tamariz and Passenger Rescued After Big Rig Crashed Into Feather River
Plumas County, CA (July 29, 2020) — On Friday, 48-year-old Jesus Tamariz of Ceres and his passenger were rescued after a big rig crashed into Feather River.
The incident happened at around 4:05 p.m. on July 24 at Highway 70 near Tobin Bridge.
An investigation revealed Tamariz was driving a 2018 Freightliner pulling a 2005 box trailer westbound on Highway 70 before the accident happened.
He traversed a left curve in the roadway and let the right-side tires of the Freightliner drive on the north shoulder. Then, he made an unsafe turn to the left which caused the Freightliner to lose control.
The Freightliner crossed both lanes of Highway 70 and slammed into the guardrail and flipped over the steep embankment. Then finally, the trailer rested on rocks out of the water.
Tamariz and his passenger got out of the Freightliner. They reached for a rock and waited until the search team arrived.
Authorities said Tamariz drove without a Class A endorsement and with a suspended motor carrier permit.
As a result of the incident, Highway 70 was shut down and the weekend’s recreational whitewater releases were canceled.
As always, keep focus when driving. Also, make sure that you are well-rested and fit to drive, especially large vehicles. It is important to also make sure you are driving with the appropriate license.
What Follows a Vehicle Crash
Roadways, while scrupulously created and mapped for efficient travel, are one of the most dangerous settings. Yet, it is crucial that everyone remain calm in order to properly handle the immediate aftermath of an automobile collision.
Here are some things that you can do in case of a vehicle crash.
Before anything else, seek medical attention if you have been hurt.
Then, get to a safe place to prevent further damage or injury.
Also, collect as much information as possible: insurance and contact information of people involved in the accident and pictures/videos of vehicles involved. Do not forget to add documentation of fault, and whatever else that can be used for evidence.
Additionally, file a police report or incident report by calling 911.
