42-Year-Old San Jose Man Dies in DUI Crash on Highway 25 at Bolsa Road
GILROY, CA (January 2, 2020) – A man was arrested following a fatal DUI crash Thursday evening in Gilroy.
The crash happened just after 9:00 p.m. on Highway 25 north of Bolsa Road.
CHP officials said a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 34-year-old Jesus Rodriguez of Hollister, drove onto the highway from a private driveway. It then struck the front left side of an oncoming 2017 Ford Transit 250 van.
The impact caused the van to overturn off the roadway. The driver, a 42-year-old San Jose man, died at the scene.
The passenger in the van, 39-year-old Gustavo Gutierrez, suffered major injuries. Paramedics transported him to a local hospital in an unknown condition.
Rodriguez was also taken to a hospital with minor injuries. Police then booked him into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Investigation into this fatal crash is ongoing.
