Passenger Identified As Jesus Hernandez Killed in Collision on Highway 33 Near Southern Gustine
Gustine, CA (April 29, 2020)– A passenger named Jesus Hernandez was killed in Highway 33 collision on late Wednesday afternoon.
California Highway Patrol responded to the scene that occurred on Highway 33 near Sullivan Road on April 27 at about 4:25 p.m.
According to CHP Officer Shannon Stiers, the two-vehicle collision involved a 1996 Acura Integra and a 2017 Nissan Sentra.
23-year-old Lisa Chavez of San Jose was driving the Integra northbound on Highway 33 with a male passenger on the passenger seat.
Stiers further reported that Chavez tried to turn left onto Sullivan Road. However, for unknown reasons, she instead veered straight in front of the southbound Sentra which caused the collision between the two vehicles.
The authorities stated that the Sentra directly hit the passenger side of the Integra. Thus, the male passenger who was identified as Jesus Hernandez, a 25-year-old San Jose resident was pronounced dead on the scene.
The impact of the crash caused Chavez to sustain injuries as well. She was then transported to Los Banos Memorial Hospital by an ambulance.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Sentra identified as Luis Cruz, 25, from Santa Nella was uninjured.
Police Investigation
Both drivers were wearing their own seatbelts when the crash happened. Stiers also said that alcohol or drugs did not seem to be the factor in the crash.
