Fatal Head-On Crash on Highway 53 in Lake County
Clearlake, CA (September 2, 2020) – On Tuesday morning, a 41-year-old Clearlake woman died.
Meanwhile, two people, identified as husband and wife Jesus Valdes and Elisha Valdes, sustained injuries in a head-on crash on Highway 53 near Clearlake.
The incident happened at 9:15 a.m. on September 1.
The CHP said the Clearlake woman was driving her 2005 Mercedes ML350 northbound on Highway 53.
For an unknown reason, she crossed a broken yellow center line into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a 2016 Toyota Camry heading southbound.
The 2015 Nissan Altima following the Toyota Camry collided with the driver’s side.
Medics then transported two drivers, identified as husband and wife Jesus R. Valdes, 53, to Kaiser Permanente Vacaville Medical Center with severe injuries; Elisha Valdes, 49, had minor injuries and was taken to Adventist Health Clear Lake.
Both Jesus and Elisha Valdes were wearing their seat belts.
The woman driving the Mercedes died on the scene. Her identity remains undisclosed.
At this time, drugs or alcohol are not factors in the crash.
