1 Dead and 1 Injured in Sunnyside Multi-Vehicle Accident
SUNNYSIDE, WA (December 7, 2018) – A male resident of Sunnyside was killed in a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 241 on December 5.
A news release from the patrol revealed that the incident was reported at 5:30 a.m. four miles north of Sunnyside.
According to troopers, the incident occurred when 34-year-old Rafael L. Verduzco of Sunnyside pulled his tractor-trailer on the highway from a private driveway. The truck was driving across the northbound lanes and was making a turn to the south when the trailer was struck by 24-year-old Jesus Cohetzaltitla of Sunnyside driving a northbound 1993 Nissan pickup.
The two vehicles when then struck by 62-year-old Randall J. Adkins of Prosser who was driving a 2009 Ford Escape. As a result, Adkins was left injured.
Cohetzaltitla died at the scene while Adkins was transported to Prosser Memorial Health hospital. The extent of his condition is still unknown as of this time. Meanwhile, Verduzco was reportedly unharmed.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision is still being investigated and charges are still pending. It is also unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.
