19-Year-Old Antioch Man Fatally Injured in Pedestrian Collision near 66th Avenue
OAKLAND, CA (August 12, 2018) – One person was killed early Sunday morning, following a DUI car crash on northbound 880 Freeway. The victim was later identified by the Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau as 19-year-old Jesaun Benson-Garrett, a resident of Antioch
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal pedestrian collision took place on the highway, just after 2:24 AM, near 66th Avenue.
56-year-old Maury Butler of Berkeley was driving a white Lexus sedan when he allegedly struck the victim who just had exited his own vehicle after an unrelated two-car collision. Emergency personnel responded to the crash site to find the critically injured man in the road. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.
The suspect was found to be driving under the influence and with a suspended license. He faces an enhancement to the charges because of multiple previous DUI convictions.
All northbound lanes were closed while the authorities investigated the crash. No additional information has been released to the public at this time.
