2 Killed and 3 Marin County Firefighters Injured in Redding Wildfire
REDDING, CA (July 26, 2018) – Two people were killed Thursday and three firefighters were injured while battling Carr Fire.
As per reports, a bulldozer operator was fighting to contain the wildfire near the area of Benson Drive and Rock Creek Road. Unfortunately, the blaze burned over 81-year-old Pollock Pines resident Don Ray Smith and his equipment. Responding emergency personnel pronounced Smith dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, three firefighters from the Marin County Fire Department were hospitalized after sustaining injuries from the fire. 37-year-old Scott Pederson, 34-year-old Tyler Barnes, and 26-year-old Brian Cardoza were transported to Mercy Hospital in Redding after sustaining burns to the ears, face, and hands. One of them was transferred to UC Davis Burn Center for further evaluation.
Later that evening, Redding Fire Department confirmed the death of Fire Inspector Jeremy Stoke. The cause of the 14-year veteran’s death was not immediately disclosed.
No additional information has been released to the public at this time.
