62-Year-Old Man Killed after DUI Driver Rear-Ends His Car on 10 Freeway at Mount Vernon Avenue
COLTON, CA (September 2, 2019) – A 30-year-old Jeffrey Ornelas Jr. of Colton was arrested following a deadly DUI crash Monday morning on 10 Freeway.
The crash happened around 7:35 a.m. along the westbound lanes of the freeway at Mount Vernon Avenue.
According to the CHP, Ornelas Jr. was driving a 2013 black Jeep Wrangler at approximately 55 mph when he rear-ended a 2004 silver Saturn Ion that was stopped in the fourth lane of the westbound 10 Freeway.
The force of the impact caused the Jeep to overturn. The Saturn driver, a 62-year-old Los Angeles man suffered major injuries.
Paramedics arrived and rushed the Saturn driver to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, where he died.
Ornelas Jr. only sustained minor injuries. He was later arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence.
Authorities are still looking further into the incident.
