Jeffrey Lukes Arrested, Man Dead, Child Injured after San Bernardino DUI Crash on Mt. Vernon Avenue
SAN BERNARDINO, CA (November 12, 2019) – Officials arrested 37-year-old Jeffrey Lukes after an alleged DUI crash on Saturday, November 9.
The incident occurred around 3:49 a.m., San Bernardino Police officials said Sunday. A Toyota Tacoma failed to yield at a traffic signal. The Tacoma collided into a Honda Civic that was in the process of making a left turn onto Mt. Vernon Avenue from eastbound lanes of 5th Street.
Authorities pronounced the 56-year-old driver of the Civic dead at the scene. The car’s passenger, a child between the ages of 4 and 5, was brought to a hospital with major injuries. Officials described the minor’s condition as critical on Sunday evening.
The man allegedly driving the pickup, Jeffrey Lukes, 37, of Rialto, fled the area on foot. Police later arrested him. Officers booked him on suspicion of murder. They held him without bail at the West Valley Detention Center, according to inmate records. He was scheduled to appear in court today, Nov. 12.
