Oregon Man Struck and Injured by Vehicle near Big Lagoon Park Road
BIG LAGOON, CA (July 11, 2018) – A man was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon after he was hit by a vehicle near Big Lagoon Park Road.
As per reports, the collision took place at about 12:41 PM on Highway 101. Jeffrey Holiman, a resident of Portland, Oregon, stopped his gray Nissan pickup on the right shoulder of the highway to retrieve a surfboard that had fallen off his vehicle.
Holiman was walking in the northbound No. 1 lane, near the double yellow lines, when a white Honda sedan entered his path. In an attempt to avoid Holiman, the driver of the Honda slowed his vehicle and steered away from the pedestrian. However, Holiman suddenly moved toward the direction of the westbound Honda and was struck by the vehicle.
The impact caused the pedestrian to roll onto the vehicle’s hood and slam into its windshield. Holiman sustained major injuries and was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Eureka. The driver of the Honda, Claude Grey of Coquille, Oregon, and his 8-year-old son passenger were reportedly unharmed in the collision.
