Jeff Dye Fatally Struck by Car While Helping Accident Victim on 5 Freeway [Ventura County, CA]

Jeff Dye Killed, 8 Injured after Car Loses Control near Pyramid Lake

 
VENTURA COUNTY, CA (February 2, 2019) – A man was killed Saturday morning after he was struck by a vehicle near Pyramid Lake. The victim was later identified as 50-year-old Jeff Dye of Thousand Oaks.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, a rollover accident happened at about 7:15 AM. A Nissan Murano that had been driving north on 5 Freeway had rolled over in the center divider.
 
The Ventura County sheriffʼs volunteer search-and-rescue team, along with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, stopped at the scene to help the 63-year-old Nissan driver. While the team members and firefighters worked the initial crash, a northbound Ford Expedition SUV went out of control and ran into the group.
 
Dye suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
Two other team members, identified as Marshall Laminen and Brian Alcantar, were transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital with major injuries. Further updates on their current medical conditions were not immediately available.
 
Six other patients were transported to nearby hospitals for evaluation. Most of them suffered unknown injuries and were released after receiving treatment.
 
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fatal accident and to identify possible contributing factors. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to cooperate with investigators as soon as possible. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
