Jean Schweitzer Killed after Newark Pedestrian Accident
NEWARK, CA (October 24, 2019) — A 64-year-old woman identified as Jean Schweitzer died after a pedestrian crash on Friday, October 18.
Just before 7:15 p.m., officers and Alameda County Fire Department firefighters received reports of the collision. They rushed to Thornton Avenue west of Peachtree Avenue, Newark police Capt. Jonathan Arguello said.
Officers later discovered that Schweitzer had been struck by a vehicle after entering the westbound lane of Thornton. Despite emergency life-saving measures, Schweitzer died at the scene.
The vehicle’s driver, a 22-year-old Hayward man, remained at the scene. He cooperated with investigators. Officers said that neither alcohol nor other substances appear to be a factor in the collision. However, the incident remains under investigation, police stated.
