60-Year-Old Bicyclist Fatally Struck by Vehicle at West Briggsmore and College Avenues
MODESTO, CA (July 4, 2018) – A man was killed Wednesday evening after his bicycle was struck by a vehicle. Stanislaus County coroner officials identified 60-year-old Jay Diaz as the victim in the incident.
The crash occurred around 9 PM in the area of West Briggsmore Avenue and College Avenue. 57-year-old Dean Lovelady was heading west on Briggsmore when his vehile collided with a bicycle, driven by Diaz, that was approaching the intersection.
Diaz was rushed to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by the medical staff. Lovelady stayed at the scene and was cooperative with the investigators.
The Modesto Police Department Traffic Unit was called to the scene to investigate the collision. Multiple witnesses were interviewed and evidence was gathered to determine who was at fault. Alcohol and drugs were ruled out as possible contributing factors in the incident.
