Javier Saavedra Dies in Crash on 16th Street Bus Stop in Phoenix
Phoenix, AZ (November 6, 2021) – Saturday afternoon, a pedestrian identified as 64-year-old Javier Saavedra died after being struck by a box truck while at a bus stop on 16th Street and Southern Avenue.
The fatal crash happened at around 3:15 p.m. on November 6.
Phoenix police said they discovered a box truck pulling a car dolly was traveling southbound on 16th Street.
The vehicle then drove into opposing traffic lanes and onto the sidewalk of 16th Street, hitting a bus stop and Saavedra.
EMS pronounced Saavedra dead at the scene.
Subsequently, the box truck driver, identified as 24-year-old Brandon Seymour, found to be impaired and later booked into Maricopa County Jail.
Moreover, Seymour faces multiple charges that include homicide and drug offenses.
Further investigation is ongoing.
