Javier Jimenez Dead after Disneyland Construction Incident
ANAHEIM, CA (August 29, 2019) – A man identified as Javier Jimenez died after a construction accident in Disneyland on Thursday, August 29.
According to the Anaheim Fire Department, emergency personnel responded to the theme park’s Gate 7 off of Ball Road around 3:19 a.m.
The accident occurred when when a plate fell and landed on one of the site workers, the spokesperson stated.
The worker landed in a trench and Urban Search and Rescue team pulled him out. They transported him to a local trauma center with critical injuries. Anaheim Police Department Sgt. Daron Wyatt later confirmed the worker had died from sustained injuries.
The workers identity has not been formally released. However, his sister-in-law said his name is Javier Jimenez who worked for a contracting company. The sister-in-law said Thursday that it was his first day working in a new position. She also said that Jimenez had a 2-year-old son with her sister.
Disneyland Resort issued their sympathies and condolences to Mr. Jimenez’s family, friends and coworkers in a statement.
No one else suffered injuries in the crash.
It was not yet determined what caused the plate to fall.
