16-Year-Old Boy Dies in Thanksgiving Crash on Highway 101 in Los Alamos
LOS ALAMOS, CA (November 30, 2019) – The 16-year-old boy killed in a broadside crash during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend has been identified as Javier Gomez of Oxnard.
The crash happened around 6:00 p.m. on southbound Highway 101 at Cat Canyon Road.
CHP officials said a blue 2004 Toyota Camry, driven by 46-year-old Rosalio Gutierrez of Parlier, attempted to make a left turn onto the northbound Highway 101. It accelerated at an unknown speed onto the path of a silver 2002 Honda Accord, driven by Francisco J. Gomez, 50, of Oxnard.
The Accord then slammed into the left side of the Toyota.
As a result, the boy who was seating in the left rear passenger seat of the Accord suffered critical injuries. Paramedics rushed him to a hospital, where he was declared dead.
Both drivers sustained minor injuries. A woman and girl who were passengers in the Accord were also hurt in the crash.
Investigators said drugs and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash.
With thoughts of peace and comfort, we would like to send our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Javier Gomez.
