ATV Crash on 10 Freeway in Blythe Kills 2 Teen Brothers and Injures 2 Girls
BLYTHE, CA (September 15, 2019) – Two teen brothers were killed and two girls were injured following an off-road crash Sunday morning in an unincorporated area of Blythe, officials said.
The crash happened around 11:45 a.m. on southbound 10 Freeway, just east of Mesa Drive.
According to the CHP, a 13-year-old girl driving a 2015 Polaris RZR all-terrain vehicle made a left turn and the vehicle rolled onto its right side.
Two boys were sitting on top of a back door panel with their backs facing outward without seat belts. They were ejected from the vehicle and the RZR rolled on top of them, CHP officials said.
As a result, the two boys suffered fatal injuries. The Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified them as Javier Castillo, 13, and Eliseo Castillo, 14, both of San Jacinto.
Javier died at the scene, while Eliseo was taken to Palo Verde Hospital, where he also succumbed to his injuries an hour and a half later.
Meanwhile, the driver and a 9-year-old girl who was sitting in the back suffered moderate injuries. They were wearing seat belts.
Investigators said that they did not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
Further investigation of this incident is underway.
Our deepest condolences are with the loved ones and friends of Javier Castillo and Eliseo Castillo. We also wish the injured parties a swift and steady recovery.
