Jaywalker Killed in Watsonville Pedestrian Accident near Lincoln and Marin Street

 
WATSONVILLE, CA (February 28, 2020) – Tuesday evening, 38-year-old Jason Silva was pronounced dead after a pedestrian accident on Freedom Boulevard.
 
Around 9:00 p.m., 26-year-old Jesus DeLeon was allegedly racing another vehicle in his Acura on Freedom Boulevard. DeLeon eventually struck Silva at the intersection of Lincoln and Marin Street.
 
Police confirmed that Silva succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
 
According to reports, DeLeon attempted to flee the police after striking Silva. In doing so, he also struck another vehicle.
 
Department spokesperson Michelle Pulido, reported that Silva was walking outside of a marked crosswalk at the time of the deadly collision.
 
Authorities later booked DeLeon into jail with a bail set to $10,000. Police arrested him on suspicion of committing a felony hit-and-run charge.
 
Police also stated that they are investigating whether or not DeLeon was racing at the time. The authorities also encourage anyone with information to contact Sgt. Donny Thul at 831-768-3315.
