27-Year-Old Man Wearing Dark Clothing Struck by Van on Ben Maddox Way and Goshen Avenue
VISALIA, CA (March 7, 2018) – A man was hospitalized after being involved in a pedestrian collision on Ben Maddox Way on Wednesday evening.
Officers responded to the scene just after 9:30 PM after receiving a call from motorists about a 2011 Chrysler van hitting a 27-year-old man. The accident took place in the area of Ben Maddox Way and Goshen Avenue near the Livestock Café.
The investigation revealed that Jason Duty was wearing all dark clothing and was standing in the No. 2 lane, when he was struck by the van. The driver was identified as 26-year-old Gloria Jaramillo. She remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Sgt. Mark Feller, who leads the traffic unit, stated that Jaramillo attempted to steer away from Duty, but was unsuccessful.
Responding officers found a motionless Duty lying in the No. 2 lane of Ben Maddox Way. He sustained major injuries including head trauma and was rushed to the Kaweah Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.
Authorities say that speed, alcohol, and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the incident.
