DUI Driver Javier Caldera Arrested in Deadly Multi-Vehicle Crash on 15 Freeway in Temecula
TEMECULA, CA (June 4, 2019) – A 44-year-old Murrieta woman was killed following a DUI crash Tuesday morning in Temecula.
Police have identified the victim as 44-year-old Janet Genao of Murrieta.
The crash happened around 7:25 a.m., on southbound 15 Freeway. Dispatchers arrived near Rancho California Road shortly after.
According to reports, 25-year-old Javier Caldera of Auburn, Washington was speeding in a Chevrolet Silverado. He then rear-ended a 2015 Nissan Altima just as traffic was slowing down.
Genao was the driver of the Nissan and pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial impact triggered a chain-reaction effect that involved four other vehicles. A Chevrolet S-10 veered off the roadway and onto the Temecula City Hall parking lot where it struck a nearby structure.
The S-10 driver, 38-year-old Mike Rivera-Aguilar, suffered major injuries and was hospitalized for further treatment. Two others sustained minor injuries as a result of the impact.
Authorities eventually arrested Caldera on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
No more details have been given to the public at this time. The incident still currently remains under investigation.
Our deepest condolences are with the family and friends of Janet Genao during this tragic time.
