60-Year-Old Fontana Man Identified as Driver Killed in Collision near North Lake Avenue
PASADENA, CA (September 11, 2018) – A man was killed Tuesday evening following a big rig crash near North Lake Avenue. The deceased victim was later identified as 60-year-old Jamie De La Paz of Fontana.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place at about 6:30 PM on the 210 Freeway. De La Paz was driving a 2006 Freightliner in the second lane when a 2016 GMC Sierra pickup truck entered the freeway.
When one of them made a lane change, their vehicles collided. The impact of the crash sent the big rig veering out of control toward the right side of the road. There it went up a concrete embankment, slammed into a tree, and rolled over. De La Paz sustained fatal injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Meanwhile, the driver of the pickup did not suffer significant injuries. He remained to cooperate with investigators.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the collision and to identify possible contributing factors. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the CHP’s Altadena area office by calling (626) 296-8100. No additional information has been disclosed to the public at this time.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Jamie De La Paz. We wish them strength and comfort during this trying time. May he rest in peace.
