83-Year-Old Woman Killed in Paradise DUI Crash
Paradise, CA (September 13, 2023) – On September 10, the authorities arrested 47-year-old James Slack of Magalia following a Skyway fatal DUI collision.
The traffic collision happened at about 4:43 p.m. in the 9000 block area wherein two vehicles were involved.
Officers said Slack was eastbound on Skyway and when he drifted into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with a vehicle driven by an 83-year-old Paradise woman.
Both drivers sustained severe injuries and were transported to an area hospital.
During the investigation, the authorities discovered Slack was watching football and drinking before to the accident. Based on this information, the police went to the hospital and arrested Slack on suspicion of a felony violation of driving under the influence, causing great bodily injury.
However, due to Slack’s injuries, he could not be booked into jail and was sent back to the hospital for further medical treatment.
The 83-year-old female victim succumbed to her injuries sustained from the collision at 9:30 p.m. same day.
Investigating officers said that as a result of her death, this investigation will be forwarded to the Butte County District Attorney seeking prosecution of James Slack for an additional felony violation of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
