James Rowland and William Montgomery Dead in Car Accident on State Route 255 near Samoa Bridges

 
Samoa, CA (August 5, 2020) – On Wednesday, passenger James Rowland and driver William Montgomery died when a car veered off the roadway and submerged into the water on Northbound State Route 255.
 
The incident happened around 2:30 a.m., on August 5.
 
According to CHP, the 2007 Chevy Malibu traveling northbound on 255 south of the third span of the Samoa Bridges left the roadway for unknown reasons.
 
Humboldt Bay Fire responded and located the mid-size sedan upside down in the water about 25 feet from the shore.
 
Swimmers pulled two unresponsive men from the vehicle and brought them to shore within 6 minutes of being deployed. The men were both transported to St. Joseph Hospital but pronounced dead shortly after.
 
The Humboldt County coroner’s office later revealed the identities of both men as James Rowland, 42, from Arcata, and William Montgomery, 52, of Eureka.
