Officers Arrest Jessica Thompson in Santa Cruz Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash
Santa Cruz, CA (September 12, 2022) – On Sunday, James Johnson, a 69-year-old Santa Cruz man died, while officers arrested Jessica Thompson, 39-year-old, also of Santa Cruz, in a hit-and-run crash on Capitola Road.
It was about 10:10 p.m. when the deadly incident happened west of 7th Avenue.
The authorities investigating this case say James Johnson was crossing the road in a motorized wheelchair when a 1999 Mercedes Benz driven by Jessica Thompson struck him. The westbound Mercedes immediately fled the scene after the accident.
Right away, the medical team arrived at the scene and rushed James Johnson to Natividad Medical Center where he later died.
Later on, the authorities located the Mercedes abandoned on a nearby street.
The authorities arrested Jessica Thompson at her residence for felony DUI, vehicular Manslaughter, and hit and run.
