66-Year-Old Benicia Man Hospitalized after Fiery Crash near Middle 2 Rock Road
PETALUMA, CA (August 28, 2018) – A man was injured late Tuesday morning following a head-on collision on Bodega Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place at about 10:45 AM near Middle 2 Rock Road. A Nissan Altima, driven by 66-year-old James Compton of Benicia, was heading east on Bodega when it entered the westbound lane.
There, the sedan collided head-on with an oncoming two‑axle dump truck that was hauling boulders.
The wrecked Nissan burst into flames as a result of the crash. Passersby rushed to the scene and pulled Compton out of the burning vehicle. He was then transported to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital after suffering moderate injuries. Meanwhile, the dump truck driver, identified as 71-year-old Albert Carusillo of Healdsburg, did not sustain any injuries. Carusillo remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the collision and to identify possible contributing factors. No additional information has been released to the public at this time.
