Missing Former Elementary School Teacher and Principal Found Deceased in Irrigation Canal
ANDERSON, CA (October 5, 2019) – Police found 87-year-old James Carroll dead Saturday in an irrigation canal behind his home in Anderson, the Redding Police Department reported.
Carroll, a former school teacher and principal at Verde Vale and Anderson Elementary Schools, had last been seen on Tuesday October 1, police said. An alert that he was missing was sent out by Redding police on Friday.
The missing senior citizen has been described as 5’10 tall with a thin build and a hunched back. He has gray hair, brown eyes, wears glasses and needs the assistance of a cane to walk. There is no clothing description at this time.
During the initial investigation, officers located Caroll’s vehicle parked at his residence and family members believe he may have left the location on foot.
An aerial drone was used to search the area surrounding his residence. That was when they found Carroll deceased in the Anderson-Cottonwood Irrigation District canal behind his home on Redbank Road.
The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office’s dive team helped to retrieve Carroll’s body from the canal, police said.
The circumstances surrounding Carroll’s death is still under investigation.
