LONG BEACH, CA (July 28, 2022) – Tuesday, authorities arrested James Barnes after a deadly crash on Lakewood Boulevard and 23rd Street.
 
According to the Long Beach Police Department, the incident happened at around 5:25 p.m. Moreover, it occurred on Lakewood Boulevard and 23rd Street.
 
Reports revealed that a westbound 2005 Dodge Ram pickup truck attempted to make a left turn to southbound Lakewood Boulevard. However, it failed to yield the right of way to pedestrians. Then, the vehicle struck a father and son crossing the roadway in a marked crosswalk.
 
Moreover, responders pronounced the 7-year-old boy dead at the scene. Also, authorities arrested and booked the vehicle driver, 57-year-old James Barnes on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.
 
Furthermore, officers do not believe that drugs, alcohol, or distracted driving played a role in the crash. Moreover, officials released Barnes early Wednesday morning on a $50,000 bond.
