Four Killed in Fiery Vehicle Collision on South Belt Line Road
Grand Prairie, TX (August 13, 2024) – 20-year-old Jaime Mesa, of Irving, is facing charges following a fatal vehicle crash on S Belt Line Road Saturday.
The authorities responded at about 8 p.m. to the two-vehicle crash on Kingston Drive near Marshall Drive.
The Grand Prairie Police said a red Dodge Charger driven by Mesa was racing a white Dodge Charger Daytona southbound on Belt Line Road.
A northbound Chevy Traverse SUV on Belt Line Road attempted to turn left on Kingston Drive and struck by the red Charger.
Five family members were riding the SUV when the collision happened. Two adults and two children died and a third child is in the hospital in critical condition.
Mesa was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He is charged with four counts of racing on a highway causing death, four counts of manslaughter, one count of racing on a highway causing serious bodily injury, and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Meanwhile, the authorities arrested Anthony Morales, 22, the driver of the second vehicle. He is charged with four counts of racing on a highway causing death and one count of racing on a highway causing serious bodily injury.
Responding officers said the red Dodge Charger sustained front end damage and a Chevy Traverse was consumed in fire and on its side.
The authorities have not released the identities of the deceased yet.
