3 Injured after Pursuit Ends in Crash near Interstate 90
SPOKANE VALLEY, WA (March 27, 2019) – Authorities arrested three men Wednesday evening following a high-speed chase near Interstate 90.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the pursuit started shortly after 8:00 PM. Police spotted a black Ford F150, driven by 26-year-old Jaime Balderas, traveling at a high rate of speed.
A WSP officer, identified as 48-year-old Joe Leibrecht, attempted a Pursuit Intervention Technique maneuver to stop the pickup but failed. After several attempts, a successful PIT maneuver caused the pickup to overturn on Highway 2.
Authorities arrested Balderas and his two passengers, 26-year-old Ivan Valdez and 44-year-old Michael Figueroa . The suspects will be booked into Lincoln County Jail after they receive treatment for minor injuries.
An investigation is ongoing to identify possible contributing factors. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
Strictly follow the rules of the road to ensure everyone’s safety. When pulled over, slow down and wait for further instructions. Do not attempt to flee the scene and cooperate with the authorities.
